I'm going camping, and I'm going to pack...

Ha!  My sisters and I would play this game when we were kidlets, and now I play it with my munchkins while we're on long car trips.  But tonight, it's for real.  Tell me, people...what crafting must-haves would you bring to camp for the summer?  You're limited to one large milk crate (as am I.)

So far, I've got three skeins of yarn, my new crochet kit, a sizable stash of fabric smushed into a vacuum bag (tricky, no?), my favorite pincushion, an assortment of needles, my zipper foot and a slew of zippers (I have a sewing machine that lives at camp), a burlap coffee sack,  some ric-rac, bias tape and my bias tape makers, a jar of padding compound, metal stamps and some washers, the much-coveted bench block, a rotary cutter, pinking shears, and sewing scissors, several rolls of copper wire, a chasing hammer, my screen-printing gear, some nylon sheers, a couple of yards of wonder-under, too many rolls of ribbon, two dress patterns for the littles, my tape measure and quilting ruler, and my handy-dandy dremel tool.  I know I'm forgetting something crucial, and camp is a good half-hour from civilization.  Wish me luck.

Here's what I hope to get done in my "spare" time this summer:

  • centerpieces for the Bar Mitzvah
  • a bunch of new cloth shopping bags
  • reuseable produce bags
  • some pillows for the playroom (I'll probably just make the cases at camp and stuff them when we get home, as van-space is at a premium when we travel.)
  • teach myself to crochet properly and have something to show for it
  • many, many headbands
  • learn to read a sewing pattern and make matchies for the little girls.
In addition, I'll be working 6 days a week.

Can't wait to show you the projects we'll be doing...I'll try to post as regularly as I can, but my internet access will most likely be limited.

Is there anything I'm forgetting?  Quick---tell me now, before I load up the car!

  2. I wish I knew how you crammed so much into 3 months! As for teaching your self to crochet, I told you that I'd help you to the best of my ability... therefore, enlist the help of one of the other camp moms because I pretty much suck.

  5. Wow that's a lot of stuff! Have you got your self healing board for your rotary cutter? Did you find your glue gun? Hope you manage to get everything done that you want to get done!

  6. You are so very ambitious... If it were me, I'd be packing a small bag with a few knitting projects (and a big bag with a pile of books to read!) Good luck learning to crochet -- it's fun!

Thanks for taking the time to comment...it makes me feel a little less like I'm talking to myself again.
