Sunday is Funday

As a mother and a homeschooler, I take seriously my obligation to the kiddios to provide educational experiences, and to make those seemingly less-than-educational situations bear fruit, as well. Therefore when we looked up yard sales on Craigslist this morning, I handed the GPS to Mojy and had him figure out which ones were closest to us, and then plot our course. As we cruised along the highway, kept up a running patter for my captive audience.
"Look, there's exit 6...which exit are we looking for? Oh, exit 8a? I wonder why it's called 8a and not just 8?"

As we passed blinged-out-domes that grace our Capitol Building, an excited little voice interrupted my shpiel.

"Ooh, Mommy! Can we go to the Cannibal Center again?"

No, I did not total the car.  And neither, my friends, did I correct him.

  1. That is so funny. Busy loves maps at the moment, she sits in teh back with the good old fashioned street directory and tells us which way is home.

  2. Too funny! I like the way you turned something regular into an educational experience, without the kids knowing!

Oh, and by the way, the link you have "Cannibal Center" leads to a page that says "the page you are looking for on littlegreenbums doesn't exist." Just thought I'd let you know!

  5. Oooh! Fun... I want to go to the cannibal center, too!

It reminds me of the time we were driving past Moffett Field at the NASA Ames Research Center. Sammy noticed the old blimp hangars and asked about them. We explained about the blimps but Sammy kept referring to them as "glimps." Forever after, in our family they will now be referred to as "glimp hangars."

Also, I have an aunt -- whenever she drives past tuxedo shop with mannequins in the window, she refers to them as "taxedermy shops..."

    Great post!

Thanks for taking the time to comment...it makes me feel a little less like I'm talking to myself again.
